Digital scanning of the Arts High School and the School Inspectorate of Timisoara
(Facades and roof)

Stage 1: Digital scan of the School Inspectorate (Facades and roof)

About the Project

The School Inspectorate from Timișoara carried out its activity in the building of the former boarding school of the Israelit High School.

The objective of the project was to get the most accurate visualization of the existing situation and the generation a working support for possible restoration interventions.

About the Process

The scanning of the School Inspectorate was carried out via laser scanning and photogrammetry performed from ground level as well as with the help of the drone. The two scanning processes were carried out at a high level of precision. Photographic and laser data were gathered from all areas of the building such as: facades located on main streets, inner courtyard areas, hard-to-reach areas, the framework. Due to very dense vegetation, some areas do not show very high quality after scanning, but in this case, it does not affect the overall quality of the project.

Based on laser and photogrammetric scans, the model was generated as a mesh model, but also in the form of a point cloud. Plans, sections and views were generated based on the model which manage to accurately reproduce the reality of the existing building.

Quantifiable Date

Number of laser scanning stations: 125
Number of photos taken: ground level: 700 and by drone: 260
Processing the data resulting from the scan (cloud of points, mesh, texture): 30 hours
Post-processing: 30 hours
External mesh - 568 Mil. poligoane
Architectural pieces: sections: 5 / views (facades): 6

Stage 2: Digital scan of the Arts High School (Facades and roof)

About the Project

The Arts High School of Timișoara was also known as the former high school Israelite of the city. Due to the visible state of degradation a of the building, it was taken out of operation.

The objective of the project was to get the most accurate visualization of the existing situation and the generation a working support for possible restoration interventions.
