About the Project
From the desire to carry out a complex experiment in a short time (under 20 hours), we set out within the company to find a topic as interesting as possible to scan and try to put it to value.
After a visit to the Village Museum in Timișoara, we were very pleasantly impressed by the appearance and personality of the beautiful House from Bata, Arad county from the 18th century. This little house is the oldest one in the Village Museum in Timișoara and is distinguished by its thatched roof, wooden chimney and balanced proportions.
The objectives of the project were the following:
• Fitting into 20 working hours - maximum impact in a limited period of time
• Ground and aerial photogrammetric scanning combined with terrestrial laser scanning
• Integrating the scanned object into a software to create a digital environment, different from the real one, to test the possibilities of enhancing a historical objective
• Generation of a short presentation film of the objective
About the Process
The scanning was carried out in the course of a single hour on the field, by a team consisting of 3 people: one person took the photos from the ground, one person took the aerial photos from a copter type drone (Parrot Anafi) and the 3rd person performed the laser scanning (with Trimble X7). The resulting data was centralized in the Reality Capture software where the textured 3D model was generated. It has been cleaned and optimized before export for use in creating the presentation video. Twinmotion Software with Unreal Engine graphics engine was used to create the virtual environment and animation.

• Field data collection (photos and laser stations): 3 hours

• Processing of data resulting from scanning (point-cloud, mesh, texture): 10 hours
• Post-processing I (in this case, cleaning the 3D model and uploading it to the Sketchfab platform): 1 hour
• Post-processing II (production of presentation film): 2 hours
• External 3D Mesh - 110 Mil. polygons
• Exterior 3D mesh optimized for the Sketchfab platform - 0.5 Mil polygons
• 2 x 16K exterior 3D model texture
