IXARIA Project
Product Configurator for Furniture
About the Project
Ixaria is a tech company specialized in the 3D industry. With their latest configurator, they aim to make a 3D furniture product configurator. Users will be able to choose the dimensions of the furniture through the configurator, the materials of which it is composed, and they will be able to receive a quote at the end of their choices. The configurator will be connected to the manufacturers' databases, so they will receive the lists of quantities with the materials they must use for the execution of the piece of furniture. In order to create the product configurator, it is necessary, of course, to have databases with the manufacturers' 3D models.
About the Process
In order to create the 3D models that are used in the product configurator, we performed scanning experiments of the component parts of the furniture objects. These could be scanned either as a single part or broken down into components to simplify post-processing for use in the product configurator. The original texture of the furniture component was not very important (considering that it would be replaced by the users), so we opted for scanning the parts with a handheld laser scanner - Einstar by Shinning 3D. The process is to be step-optimized, with automated processing steps to be performed continuously. In this way, human intervention consists of scanning the parts at the suppliers' premises and quality control checking of the 3D models before they are introduced into the product configurator.
Quantifiable Data
• Duration of 3D laser scanning - depending on size and complexity: 5-30 min
• Quality control check: 5 min
