3D remodelling of
MARTA Westinghouse
double-decker bus

About the Project

MARTA is a symbol of the automotive industry in Arad, being the first automobile factory in the Kingdom of Hungary, established in 1909. This factory, a branch of the American company Westinghouse, marked the beginning of an innovative era for transportation. Among the emblematic models produced, was the double-decker bus, manufactured between 1910 and 1912. A total of 6 units were produced, ordered by the Budapest City Hall.

The project is part of a larger initiative launched by Hub mARTA that aims to put replicas of historical buses back into operation in the municipality of Arad.

Besides the original replica of the double-decker bus, our colaborators also asked for an up to date version that will represent the colours of the city of Arad, red and white.

About the Process

The bus was digitized by means of 3D remodeling based on historic photos references.

Based on the photos we tried to reproduce as accuratly as possible all the details that we could see in them. Because of the very low quality of the photos this task was more challenging that it was supposed to be. Overall the complexity of the 3D model is sufficient and it brings back the feeling of that era.

For the up to date version of the bus we incorporated the colors of the Arad city, red and white. In this way the overall aesthetic of the bus got a more contemporary touch.
