"Mihai Eminescu" National Theater of Timisoara
About the Project
One of the most complex projects carried out within Cyberscanning, in collaboration with Spotlight Heritage, consisted of scanning the main hall of the Mihai Eminescu National Theater of Timișoara. The project had the same goal of scanning - making virtual tours. The very high complexity was due to the spatial organization of the hall (multi-level gardens, boxes, stage, chairs, lighting equipment, etc.) but also the very difficult control of the light - the hall had no glazed surface with access to outside light. Due to this fact and the need to scan all relevant surfaces within the room at the highest quality level, a careful calibration of the interior light and a high attention to capturing all the valuable information in the space was necessary.
About the Process
The Great Hall was scanned by a team of 3 people who handled laser scanning, photogrammetric ground scanning and drone photogrammetric scanning. The resulting data was centralized in the Reality Capture software where the textured 3D model was generated. It has been cleaned and optimized by the Spotlight Heritage of Timișoara team before export for use in creating virtual tours. In addition, we made a short presentation film.
Quantifiable Data
• Field data collection: 24 hours (man-hours)
• Number of ground pictures: 1350 / Number of drone pictures: 1050 / Number of laser station positions 23

• Post-processing I (in this case, cleaning the 3D model for use in virtual tours): 10 hours
• Post-processing II (making a presentation film): 60 hours
• Internal 3D Mesh - 600 Mil. polygons
• Exterior 3D mesh optimized for virtual tours - 5 Mil. polygons
• 8 x 16K interior 3D model texture
